Silver Price Watch

She knew, but didn't care. She'd rather buy silver bullion than diamond rings or fancy jewelry. She knows the diamond industry is completely rigged.

Well for the wedding ring we brought a much more expensive (and bigger) 18ct gold and platinum ring. Spent a fortune on the metal part, but it has a cubic zirconia instead of a diamond. No one has ever noticed it wasn't a diamond.

My daughter is a Jeweller, She said her boss said it is going to be a silver Christmas this year, not a gold one as usual. Even the owner of the business she works for is getting sticker shock when trying to reorder stock!

It will take some time for the $6,000 + Price of Gold to become the " New Normal ".

So yes, I can see a shift to Silver for a while, but Gold has always had the strongest draw in the longer term.

;)

It's that gold price + the absolutely crazy jewellery mark up. And people becoming more conscious about buying bullion for gold rather than jewellery, I'm guessing the % markup jewellers will charge will have to go down.

I don't know that actual number but I'm assuming a top line Jeweler is making close to $50/hr.

So given the price of Gold & the price of the Jeweler labour input, yeah, Jewelry prices are going to skyrocket.

It might kill the local jewelry market as cheaper imports take more market share.

When the product component is all the same, cheaper Labour costs will have an impact.

In 2011 ABC had their 1kg bars on back-order. I ordered some with a estimated arrival of 2 weeks. Turned out to be more like 6 weeks. Also the batch of bars I got were really rough and rushed through the pouring process.

I did the same in 2020 and they claimed 2 weeks. They tried to delay but I insisted I was coming up to collect them. Managed to pick them up within 16 days or so but only because I made it difficult for them. Their pre-order times are extremely optimistic. Recently, their kilo bars went from 1 week pre-order to 5 weeks in a matter of 24-48 hours. I like to keep an eye on pre-order times, so I'll update if they keep changing them.
