Blast from the past

Fifty-six people were killed when a fire broke out at an English football match on May 11, 1985.

The rickety wooden stadium at Bradford in West Yorkshire was 99 years old and well-overdue for an overhaul.

Underneath the main stand, a massive pile of rubbish had accumulated.

The fire was started for the most banal of reasons. An Australian visitor dropped a cigarette to the floor with the intention of stamping out the flame.

But instead, the cigarette dropped right through the floorboards into a massive pile of paper waste.

Would you swap Churchill for fish and chips on banknotes?Bank of England is giving people that option. The public can vote to replace historical figures with 'symbols of national identity'
