This is an interesting angle to show the manipulation of the price of silver.

Silver is almost the same price as a barrel of oil.

We produce around a billion Oz's of silver per year.

Yet the world produces a billion Oz's of oil every 10 days.

Oil is in a supply surplus.

Silver has 200+ Moz deficit the past few years.

Silver at A$86+ spot – some straight-talk advice for newer stackers

G’day everyone, with spot now pushing A$86.60+ a lot of new faces are turning up in the buy section and asking the same questions I asked when I started many years ago. Thought I’d share the approach that’s kept me sane (and still stacking) through multiple boom–bust cycles.
  1. This is normal (for a bull market)
Silver has done +80–100 % moves in AUD plenty of times (2009-2011, 2020-2021, now 2024-2025). Enjoy it, but don’t expect it to be a straight line forever.
  2. Buy what you can hold through a 30–40 % drop
If a fall back to A$60–65 one day would make you panic and sell, you’re probably buying too much right now. Only use money you won’t need for 5+ years.
  3. Dollar-cost average > trying to time the top or bottom
The single best thing most of us ever did was set up a monthly buy (e.g. $200–$500) no matter what the price was doing. Removes emotion.
  4. Premiums matter more than spot when you’re starting
    At these levels:
    • 1 oz coins (Kooks, Koalas, Lunars and the whole array of Perth nomenclature) are usually A$5–$9 over spot from the big dealers on a good day.
    • 10 oz bars are often the cheapest per ounce once you get above ~$5k orders.
    • 1 kg bars become the winner above ~$15–20k.
Avoid “collector” coins and numismatics until you have at least 200–300 oz of bullion (Turn your Perth bullion coins into numismatics).
    • Buy the low mintages.
  5. Storage & security first
Safe at home, bank safe-deposit box, or a reputable private vault – whatever you choose, sort it before you buy the metal; there's been plenty of stories of home safes broken in to and sad folk, don't be one of them.
  6. Tax reality check (Australia)
    • Pure bullion (99.9 % or better) bought as “investment” silver is GST-free if you buy from a bullion dealer.
    • Second-hand or “junk” silver usually attracts GST unless the seller is registered and charges it on the margin scheme.
Keep receipts – makes life easier if you ever sell.
  7. Have a plan for when/how you’ll sell
Most of us are never selling the core stack, but it’s smart to decide in advance you’ll take profit on, say, 10–20 % if we ever see A$120–$150. Write it down so you don’t get greedy or scared when the time comes.
  8. Don’t borrow money to buy silver "Ever"
  9. Margin, credit cards, Afterpay – just don’t. If the trade goes against you it turns a hobby into stress.
Final thought: Silver at A$86 feels expensive if you missed the ride from A$45. It will feel cheap if we’re looking at A$120 in two years. Either way, slow and steady wins. Buy a little bit each month, store it safely, sleep well at night.

All the best for Christmas.

buy at the top, its only one way
never panic, buy some to hold them
prices can gap down anymoment!
take some advantage on discount / on sale, there may be minimum purchase from time to time, be it $500 to $2,500
1kg of silver , may be easier to get 1oz Pt instead
for 100oz bar, may be the future buyer does not have that kind of cash
few tubes of roos for trades, bar for storage
best is to be able to carry them on a small back pack moving about freely
