I won't mention any names. But on Saturday I purchased some coins from a dealer. While I was buying he mentioned he had some 1kg silver bars, I inspected the bars and said I wanted them and that I would pick-up on Monday (had to wait for the bank to open).

Come Monday morning (this morning) he texts me and we arrange a time to do the deal in the afternoon. 1 hour later he texts me and says his partner just sold the bars.

This isn't a good way to do business.

Customer retention is key for any successful business. Loyalty is never gained through disregard for customer needs. It's always a matter of principal for me and such a shortsighted pursuit of profits will force me to walk away and never look back.

Another thing with this dealer. I purchased a bunch of sealed coin rolls. I spot checked a couple of rolls, but when I got home I found that one of the rolls had two 1oz coins missing. In his defense, he did later compensate me with a couple of other coins.

I called him up and said this is BS, that we made the deal on Saturday, the only thing we were waiting on was the bank to open Monday. He said he would sell me two of his personal bars at the same price, and he'll hunt around to make up the rest.

“All good mate, I’ll let you honour the agreement later in the week when you get more”.

that sounds like a genuine mistake, they happen and how a dealer makes good is a sign of a good dealer

The problem I have is that he sold them online and he still had the bars in his possession when I called him. Meaning he could have just told the other guy "sorry I've already sold these".

I had a fairly unimpressive experience with a dealer recently, simply wont go back but i know many will. What really pissed me off was that it was obvious they were hoping i was a complete newby and telling me bs. Will be interesting to see if they honour their pledge to buy back at spot the garbage they sent me. I have archived that email for legal purposes if need be.

how to prove the source of funs when you just cash out the gold
we won't honour our deal at spot unless you give us your handle, sorry lost my handle years ago

Dealer should have communicated a hold on the product to other employees, but if you didn't put a deposit down to hold them, I can understand why that might not have happened.
