Blast from the past

The London Hammer (also called the London Artifact) is a hammer made of wood and iron found in 1936 in London, Texas. Part of the hammer was embedded in limestone, which was odd, as the limestone in which it was stuck was 400 million years old.

Niki, the pocket-sized horror from Poland | Drive Flashback

Compact, cute and utterly crap, the Polish-built FSM Niki blighted our roads briefly in the late 1980s and early ’90s

The Australian car market was getting pretty sophisticated by the late 1980s. But nobody told an outfit known as E. Kandt which, in 1989, started importing a crude, Eastern Bloc-built, pensioned-off Fiat known as the FSM Niki 650.

FSM stood for Fabryka Samochodow Malolitrazowych, which rolled off the tongue as gracefully as the Niki took to the road. This pocket-sized horror was built in Poland and based on the Fiat 126, first seen circa 1971.

The options list had “not available” next to air-conditioning, automatic transmission and power steering. What you saw was what you got: flipper front windows, a single speed interior fan, drum brakes all-round, non-synchro gearbox. Not even a glovebox or radio.

Interesting converting prices to round 50,s
1968 dinner box and drink $1.46 3 round 50,s app 1 oz silver
2024 dinner box with drink $14.45 app 1xround 50
Is KFC 10x more expensive or 3x cheaper
Or
1968 avg male wage $68.30 PW =137 round 50's=47 dinner boxes
2023 avg male wage $1838 PW =137 round 50's=127 dinner boxes
2.7 x more dinner boxes today

A dinner box was $5.20 so lets say 10 round 50's. Today those round 50's are worth $12 each or $120.
Currently 21 pieces costs $37.95 so the value of silver has INCREASED over the years, you can buy 3 times more chicken with it now than then.

I went to the RBA inflation calculator to see what the 1968 $5.20 is worth today. According to them it's worth $72.35 in 2022 (it doesn't allow years beyond 2022).

Interestingly average house prices in 1966 were $4,500 in Sydney. That's $108,000 in silver round 50's (9000 x $12). The RBA calculator has the $4,500 at $62,606 in 2022's value. The average house in Sydney is now $1,200,000+.

So KFC has gotten cheaper, silver's value has increased, and the housing bubble is bigger than ever.
