The idea of the black and white stripes by the way was to keep the sharks at bay while swimming. Studies in the 1940s did work apparently until they ran out of people to wear them .

A B-24 Liberator after suffering massive damage to the front & cockpit. As it's surely impossible to land an aircraft without cockpit, this destruction must have been caused by some kind of accident while grounded.
