Alleged Proof That the ATO Was Never Officially Gazetted.

Our purpose is to contribute to the economic and social wellbeing of Australians by fostering willing participation in our tax and super systems. Our vision is to be a leading tax and superannuation administration known for our contemporary service, expertise and integrity.

The ATO “Mission Statement”, “To foster the voluntary participation in the taxation and superannuation system”.
When l read this a few years back, it became clear that the system is voluntary or at least that’s what was purported on their website.

The first time I read the term "voluntary compliance" I knew something was up. How can something be voluntary (without obligation or coercion) and also in compliance (obedience to a law under the threat of penalty).

I found it here on page 7: https://treasury.gov.au/sites/default/files/2020-02/p2020-55333.pdf

The ATO has one mission statement built into the ATO Corporate Plan: “We contribute to
the economic and social wellbeing of Australians by fostering willing participation in our tax
and superannuation systems”.

I think the way they get us into the voluntary system typically as young men & women is when we voluntarily apply to join the system by way of TFN application. Usually on the advice of trusted adults already in the program.
Personally, my plan ASAP, is to amend the record & return their TFN. We’ll see how that goes.

when i was young i was told
"you have to pay taxes unless you have a standing army"
doesnt matter in reality what you think the law says
"might is right" and men with guns will come to get you with violence on their mind if you choose to not voluntarily participate in their taxation program
so unless you can fight them all you have to pay your taxes
kinda like vaccine/covid rules were not legal but you would get attacked by the government (police) if you didnt comply

Yes, and the TFN being a requirement of your employer to pay you. When I was young (14), I thought it was rediculous that I needed a bank account to be paid and that I wasn't given an option to be paid in cash. Also, being a debt based economy, it's a typical request when someone applies for a loan to see previous tax returns to establish income/earnings. The system has been setup to normalise paying tax.

I don't really know because I've never really looked into it but I thought taxation came about as a voluntary contribution during the first world war? It was like 3% or something like that.

And BTW, in relation to the thread topic of the ATO not being officially gazetted, it does call into question the legitimacy of the ATO and their ability to collect taxes, however, the tax system has been setup to appoint a Commissioner of Taxation. All tax is payable to the Commissioner and the ATO is merely a government body that works to collect tax on behalf of the Commissioner.
