A piece of political satire history for auction...

BOB HAWKE & JOE CITIZEN RUBBERY FIGURES
Rubbery Figures was a satirical rubber puppet series and segment that screened in Australia in various forms from 1984 to 1990. The series ran on the ABC until 1988, when it was axed and subsequently revived as a segment on the Seven Network's Fast Forward in April 1989. It featured puppets of major political and social characters. The lot comprises of two of the original puppets created by Peter Nicholson; "Bob Hawke" with his trade-mark sideburns from his Trade Union days (and fitted with a small hose to facilitate "crying" at appropriate moments), and "Joe Citizen" who was called upon to provide vox-pop quotes from the man in the street. The puppets are accompanied by a written quote to the present vendor, offering the "Bob Hawke", which was purchased, and a "Bob Menzies", which was not. Accompanied by a boxed VHS video "The Rubbery Years" signed by Nicholson. (4 items).
